Die 14. uncube-Ausgabe “Small Towns, Big Architecture” beschäftigt sich mit großer Architektur in kleinen Städten: von der Moderne-Vision eines amerikanischen Industriellen im Mittleren Westen über Prora auf Rügen bis zu Corbusiers Kirche im französischen Firminy. Außerdem unternimmt uncube eine Reise zu architektonischen Hässlichkeiten, Kommerzpalästen und Kuriositäten aller Art, immer nach dem Motto, dass Größe sehr wohl eine Rolle spielt.

The culture of important architecture pre-dates our current celebrity obsession with big names. This 14th issue of uncube “Small Towns, Big Architecture” looks at “big” buildings in “small” contexts, from an industrial philanthropist’s modernist vision in Columbus, Indiana to Prora, a 4.5km-long former Nazi seaside resort on the Baltic coast, to a Le Corbusier chapel completed 41 years after his death in Firminy, France. Add to these case studies a mix of carbuncles, cash cows and curiosities from our photo story and let uncube take you on a world tour of surprising monuments according to the “size matters” ethos.
In addition, uncube’s editors share their favourite reads this summer, cartoonist Klaus takes a swipe at Vinoly’s “Walkie Scorchie” office block in London and Mexican architect Tatiana Bilbao drops into uncube’s Berlin photo booth to explain why good architecture has to stay local.
